Why I’m becoming optimistic about the last days

We often hear about how terrible the last days will be. Of course, we are already experiencing some of this and expect things to get worse; however, lately I’ve started to view the future with less dread and more optimism.

I absolutely understand we must be prepared, we have been and continue to be forewarned for example:

However; as you will have seen in the video, there is hope and even a growing light in the midst of darkness and evil.

While Nephi recorded that “the righteous need not fear” (1 Nephi 22:17, 22) because the Lord’s protective hand will be over them during the calamities of the last days, the wicked have no promise of protection from these events. Elder Bruce R. McConkie taught: “We do not say that all of the Saints will be spared and saved from the coming day of desolation. But we do say there is no promise of safety and no promise of security except for those who love the Lord and who are seeking to do all that he commands” (in Conference Report, Apr. 1979, 133; or Ensign, May 1979, 93).

17 Wherefore, he will preserve the righteous by his power, even if it so be that the fulness of his wrath must come, and the righteous be preserved, even unto the destruction of their enemies by fire. Wherefore, the righteous need not fear; for thus saith the prophet, they shall be saved, even if it so be as by fire.

22 And the righteous need not fear, for they are those who shall not be confounded. But it is the kingdom of the devil, which shall be built up among the children of men, which kingdom is established among them which are in the flesh—

Here are two related talks, the first: The Righteous Need Not Fear by Elder Oaks

and the second: We Need Not Fear by Elder Andersen

As in the days of Noah when there was great wickedness, there was also great righteousness in the City of Enoch.  I believe we have the potential to create other such righteous places where the righteous can stand together, even with others who while they may not have accepted the gospel, would be prefer to live with righteous members of the church than in the midst of the wickedness which will overcome much of the world.

Epilogue

While the following article could have been linked from other headings as well as this one I am recommending it to you here because of the security and consistency provided by a good ward family, the gospel of Jesus Christ and the Savior Himself.
